On January 6th, The Trump administration announced it will sell oil drilling rights in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Oil Drilling is bad in many ways to the environment, especially now, considering that only a 6% percent of the arctic is left.
Some of the consequences of oil drilling include:
Disruption of wildlife habitats
Air and water pollution
Dangerous emissions contributing to climate change
Impacts in wildlife and wilderness
Deathly to animals
Environmentalists and indigenous Alaskans who oppose Arctic drilling have said the action is being rushed, without protections for a fragile wilderness that is home to calving caribou, migratory birds and other species.
A formal “notice of sale” is set to be published in the Federal Register on Dec. 7. The move is in keeping with a congressional mandate to hold two auctions of oil and gas leases in the refuge’s coastal plain by Dec. 22, 2024
HOW YOU CAN HELP
NRDC is calling for nationwide opposition and helping to lead the charge against this assault on the refuge, as well as other attempts to drill and destroy public lands and waters in the Arctic region. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is the last place for oil and gas drilling.
